In Master Niels’ latest course, you will enhance your mindfulness practice and equip yourself with the skills and wisdom to communicate mindfully with others during everyday situations.

Mindful communication is about connecting deeply with ourselves and others through intentional speech and listening. It involves cultivating mindfulness energy, practicing compassionate intentions, and recognizing the impact of our words and reactions.

By embracing deep listening and mindful silence, we become aware of how sounds affect our emotions and learn to avoid reactive patterns. This approach leads to conversations rooted in kindness, understanding, and non-violence, where the goal is to create mutual understanding rather than to win. Like an art form, mindful conversation requires vulnerability, self-awareness, and continuous learning, with each interaction offering an opportunity for healing and growth.

Mindful Communication - New Mindfulness Course at the Inner Mind Institute

What will you learn?
In this course on mindful communication, you will not only learn how to speak and listen with attention but also discover how to use awareness and compassion to create genuine connections. You will learn to harness the power of mindful energy to respond with more wisdom and empathy, even in challenging situations.

We begin by strengthening mindfulness within yourself so that you can speak with intention and clarity. Then, we dive into the art of mindful listening, where you’ll uncover what really happens when you listen—not just to the words but also to the emotions and the silence in between. You will learn to explore your inner world without reacting impulsively.

Next, we focus on our natural reactions. How often do we respond out of habit or impulse? By slowing down and breathing mindfully, you will discover how to respond with calmness and understanding. You’ll develop a way of speaking that is rooted in loving-kindness and non-violent communication, with an emphasis on creating understanding instead of trying to win.

Mindful conversation is all about the nuances—it’s an art in itself. You’ll learn to detect your own ego and how vulnerability and understanding can deepen and heal your interactions. Practicing these skills is at the core of this course, helping you build the capabilities you can use in every interaction.

Finally, the morning retreat offers a chance to bring all these elements together. You will have the opportunity to deepen your mindfulness in communication, silence, patience, and mood, allowing you to engage with the world with compassion and a clear heart.

7 Comprehensive sessions

Session 1 - Mindfulness Energy

We begin our course with the foundation: cultivating the energy of mindfulness. This energy is the basis of mindful communication. Without the power of mindfulness, we cannot communicate in a conscious and meaningful way. In this first session, we will practice together, and you’ll learn how to develop and apply the energy of mindfulness in your everyday conversations.

We will guide you in using this energy to ground yourself in the present moment and engage in deeper listening and speaking. By being aware of your thoughts, feelings, and intentions, you can create communication that is rooted in understanding, compassion, and authenticity. This session lays the groundwork for everything you will learn and experience later in the course.

Get ready to take the first step toward more mindful interactions and a deeper connection with yourself and others.

Session 2 - Mindful Listening

Take the time to listen, and do it mindfully. Listen without interpretations or prejudices, and make listening an art. In this session, you will learn what really happens when we listen — how sounds come into our awareness and how we can experience them without immediately judging.

Deep listening means that we are breathing mindfully at the same time and giving space to silence. By allowing silence, we create an environment where true communication can emerge, free from the noise of our own thoughts and automatic reactions.

Practicing mindful listening helps you become a better listener and forms the foundation for all the responses that follow. With this skill, you lay the groundwork for deeper understanding and connection in your conversations and relationships.

Session 3 - How the Body Reacts

What happens in our body when we listen to someone else? In this session, you’ll learn to recognize your reactions, which are often made up of many sensations that we usually aren’t aware of. Understanding and dealing with these reactions can be a challenge in itself.

During this session, you’ll not only discover your automatic responses, but you’ll also learn how to handle them mindfully. We don’t have to react to everything that we hear or feel. By creating space and time to respond differently to your reactions, you take the preparatory step toward mindful speaking.

Session 4 - Mindful Speech

In this session, we focus on the power of mindful speech, where our intention plays a crucial role. We will integrate principles of non-violence, loving-kindness, and compassion into the way we communicate. You will learn to avoid speaking impulsively and to express yourself with thoughtfulness and care.

We encourage using the first-person perspective to express your feelings and experiences honestly, without the need to win or convince the other person. Remember, we are always partly right, and so is the other party. By embracing this mindset, we open the door to more understanding, empathy, and genuine connection in our conversations.

Session 5 - Mindful Conversations

Conversation is truly an art. In this session, you’ll learn to recognize subtle nuances, detect the role of the ego, and embrace vulnerability. Understanding becomes a powerful tool for healing as you practice the techniques of mindful conversation.

After each time you speak, we begin anew. After each time you listen, we begin anew. By continuously starting over, we prevent negative emotions and thoughts from taking control. The key is to remain mindful, staying present in each moment to create deeper, more meaningful connections through conversation.

Session 6 - Keep Learning

Mindfulness is a lifelong journey, and we encourage continuous growth and learning as you deepen your practice and bring mindful communication into every aspect of your life. Seven weeks is just the beginning; learning to communicate mindfully is a skill that often takes years to truly master.

Our speech is deeply connected to both our inner world and the world around us. It holds the power to either harm or heal others. By committing to this journey, you’re not just enhancing your ability to communicate; you’re cultivating a way to bring more happiness and understanding into your life and the lives of those around you. Developing these skills will have a lasting impact on every conversation you have moving forward.

Session 7 - Morning Retreat

Spend a peaceful morning with us as we come together to meditate and reflect on the journey of mindful communication. During this retreat, we will practice key exercises together, including mindful listening and mindful speaking, reinforcing the essential skills you’ve learned throughout the course.

We will revisit the core topics of this journey, ensuring that these principles are deeply rooted in your practice. You’ll also receive guidance on how to continue your path of mindful communication beyond this course, helping you integrate these techniques into your daily life.

Let every conversation from this moment onward be a step toward deeper connection, healing, and understanding.

A comprehensive course by Master Niels
The 7-week course, Mindful Communication, was developed by Master Niels, founder of the Inner Mind Institute, and draws upon his deep expertise in mindfulness. With over 15 years of dedicated training practice, Master Niels has a wealth of experience guiding others on their mindfulness journey.

Trained under Thai Buddhist monks, Master Niels spent a year as a practicing monk in his teacher’s temple, gaining profound insights into mindfulness and meditation. Following in his master’s footsteps, he has embraced the mission of bringing the most profound and authentic teachings of mindfulness to the West.

Master Niels has carefully adapted these traditional practices to fit the modern Western lifestyle, crafting the Mind Retreat Program and a series of mindfulness courses designed to help you cultivate lasting positive change in your life.
